Back to School and E-bikes

Posted

As we get ready to welcome students back for another exciting school year, the safety of our students remains our highest priority. We appreciate your partnership in helping us create a safe environment for everyone in our school community.

Minnesota law also regulates the use of electric-assisted bicycles. Under Minnesota Statutes, section 169.011, e-bike riders must be at least 15 years old to operate a Class 3 e-bike. While state law allows younger riders to operate certain lower-speed e-bikes, school districts may establish additional safety expectations for students traveling to and from school and while on school property. Operators under the age of 18 years old must wear a helmet while riding electric assisted bikes.

We encourage you to take a few minutes before the school year begins to talk with your child about this expectation and to discuss safe transportation options to and from school. Our goal is to ensure that every student arrives safely each day.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued partnership in keeping our students safe. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's school office or the District Office.
