Thirty-eight years of quality service and counting. That’s the reputation that Nygaard Auto Repair offers. Nygaard Auto Repair has been serving the Kenyon community for almost four decades, and they work on just about every type of engine. The Nygaard team strives to make any vehicle, new or old, run well again. Wade Nygaard, the current owner, said one of his favorite parts of being in the automotive business is helping vehicles reach their “former glory” once again.
With thirty-eight years in business, the Nygaard team has seen a lot of change in Kenyon. Wade says he was a one-year-old when his father, Tom Nygaard, decided to open the shop. Nygaard Repair has literally been a family business from the start. Wade says he started helping his dad at the shop around age eleven. Learning the ins and outs of automotive repair just made sense in Wade’s mechanical mind.
Although Wade understood the mechanics of auto repair, he decided to pursue training in culinary arts. He attended Le Cordon Bleu and used his training to open Pizza Time in Kenyon. However, when other restaurants began forming in town, it created difficult competition. Wade then decided to return to the automotive business.
Wade enrolled in the automotive technology program at DCTC. He worked diligently and became top of his class, earning him a spot to compete in the USA skills competition. Wade’s dedication to quality work can be seen in the way he handles everyday projects in the shop.
This is Wade’s fifth year running Nygaard Auto Repair, and he looks forward to what the future will hold for the business. He is working on expanding the business by adding two more bays to the building east of the current shop. Wade notes that ever since the Milo Peterson Ford Garage closed, business has been increasing. The expansion will help Nygaard to continue offering quality auto care to the Kenyon community. Wade currently employs two mechanics and is eager to expand the business. Wade is grateful for the continued support of the Kenyon community.
