Fire On the Nature Trail

Posted

On Sunday, May 11th, the Wanamingo Fire Department was called to a fire located on the Wanamingo Nature Trail. The fire started under the walking bridge ramp along the Zumbro river, involving an unoccupied golf cart owned by a local family that had been parked under the bridge ramp. Their grandchildren had taken the cart to the river to go for a walk, and it was a fluke that it started on fire, causing the bridge to burn as well. The family feels awful, and we must remember that accidents happen, and The Messenger will withhold the names of the owners as things get sorted out. The pedestrian walking bridge at the Nature Trail is closed until further notice. No one was hurt, and the damage was limited thanks to the quick response by the Fire Department. The City is working with the insurance company, and once coverage is approved, the repairs will be made.
