The Kenyon Sportsman’s Club Inc is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month. The KSCI was founded in 1976. It was originally named the Kenyon Rod & Gun Club, but it was later renamed to its current name. In 1982, the club continued to grow as the founding members built the clubhouse. Jason Prondzinski, a member of the KSCI, comments that at that time, the club was heavily invested in planting trees and building bird and wood duck houses. Today, the KSCI is focused more on investing in the next generation. Prondzinski says, “We have now changed gears and have become more focused on youth and training and supporting the youth of our communities.” The KSCI holds many youth events throughout the year, including firearm safety instruction, KW High School trap shooting, and this year, the KSCI successfully hosted the first-ever youth turkey hunting contest. The KSCI clubhouse regularly offers pistol shooting, trap shooting, and gun safety classes that are open to the public. Prondzinski says, “scheduled pistol shoots…are every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month through the summer and early fall. Scheduled trap shoots…are every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday of the month through the summer and early fall.” Funding for these events is made possible through memberships and a yearly raffle held by the KSCI.
Prondzinski states that the mission of the KSCI is “to develop opportunities for the enjoyment of the greater outdoors as an essential part of the character building and the spiritual and physical development of our people; to encourage the protection of our natural resources and to cooperate with other like-minded organizations.” Prondzinski enjoys being a part of the KSCI as it has had a positive impact on his life. He says, “I get to meet people that I would never have known and some that have become good friends of mine… [and] the camaraderie of the group is a good time.”
To celebrate 50 years of camaraderie and community involvement, the KSCI invites the community to attend its 50th anniversary celebration on June 20th, 2026. The event will be a great opportunity to learn more about the KSCI, meet new people, and have a chance to win some great prizes. Hamburgers, hot dogs, dessert, and more will be provided. The celebration begins at noon with a time of open shooting until 4 pm. Family time will run from 4 pm-9 pm and will have activities for all ages, including bounce houses, Mölkky, and yard games.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the KSCI, Prondzinski says, “anyone can get a membership by attending a meeting or setting up an appointment on a Saturday to get through an orientation. Meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7 PM, and membership is $75 for the first year and $50 every year after as long as you renew by [the] March meeting.” The Kenyon Sportsman’s Club Inc is located at 44954 10th Ave, Kenyon.
