Leif Sawyer Gunhus, age 21, of Carver, MN, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 20, 2025 in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Leif was blessed with a brilliant mind, a huge heart, and was an amazing brother and son.
Memorial Service was held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, 2:00 PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 23290 Highway 7, Excelsior, MN. Pastor Adam Hengst officiated. Family received friends on Saturday, May 3, 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the Bertas Funeral Home, 200 West Third Street, Chaska, and also one hour prior to the service at church. The inurnment was at Gol Church Cemetery in Kenyon, MN. Leif was born on September 23, 2003 in Burbank, CA one of three children to Chester and Lisa (Records) Gunhus . He was baptized at Hollywood Presbyterian Church, Hollywood, CA and confirmed in 2018 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Excelsior, MN. He graduated from Southwest Christian High School in 2022 and was currently a Junior at University Wisconsin – Stout in Menomonie, WI. Leif loved gaming – creating video games with the music and artwork. He loved unique food, travel (including trips to Finland, Puerto Rico and Belize) and enjoyed art and art exhibits at school. He particularly loved playing with his doggies, and all animals loved his kind and gentle nature.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Janice Gunhus and Raymond Records.
Survivors include his parents, Chet and Lisa Gunhus of Carver; siblings, Cooper and Charlotte of Carver; grandparents, Paul Gunhus of Kenyon, Marjorie Records of Edina; uncle and aunts, Gunder Gunhus of Red Wing, Cindy Gunhus of Kenyon, Kari Gunhus of Zumbrota; many cousins and friends.
